Artist Steve Routley was born in Inglewood,
California and moved to Santa Cruz at the age of 9 where he
currently resides. Steve became interested in art at an early age
and it has remained his passion.
Having worked with different types of mediums and various art forms
and styles, Steve finds abstract art using acrylics and oils most
satisfying. Using various layers and techniques, Steve usually
begins without a vision and lets his imagination and feelings lead
the way. His works are principally identified by their vibrant
direction of color and contrast. It is interesting to hear what
others see and have to say when viewing each piece; to each a
different encounter. Steve's goal is to take the viewer on a journey
and to uplift and inspire others with his creations.
A trademark for his paintings is the incredible dynamic depth of
each painting under light. There is a ghost-like quality that draws
the viewer's eye from place to place over the painting as the light
changes.
Steve is associated with Santa Cruz Visual Arts Index, a member of
the Santa Cruz Art League and his works have been recognized
throughout Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Northern California and the
Bay Area. His originals and giclee's are a
fine addition to any home, and also an investment that will last a
lifetime.
